Sustainable recycling
Sustainable recycling

At Kuusakoski, we have been working for a cleaner tomorrow for more than 100 years. Our mission is to restore the value of waste materials by collecting and processing them into new, valuable raw materials. We want to play our part in tackling climate change and other sustainable development issues. We are part of the solution and help our customers on their path towards more sustainable business operations.

Our sustainability report 2022

500 000
Our recycled products helped to avoid 1,36 million tons of CO²e emissions in 2022. This amount corresponds to the annual emissions of around 500,000 passenger cars.

Our target is to achieve carbon neutrality in our own operations by 2035* and in our entire value chain by 2045**.

*scope 1 and 2
** scope 1,2,3

Scope 1 = direct emissions from operations
Scope 2 = indirect emissions from purchased energy
Scope 3 = other indirect emissions from operations

Agenda 2030 and Global Compact

We are part of the UN's corporate responsibility initiative for sustainable development, Agenda 2030 In particular, we report on our progress against the five selected targets:

  • 8 - Decent work and economic growth
  • 9 - Industry, innovation and infrastructure
  • 11 - Sustainable cities and communities
  • 12 - Responsible consumption and production
  • 13 - Climate action.

We are also committed to the ten principles of the UN Global Compact on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.

Annual sustainability targets

As part of the target setting process, we have defined quantitative targets for each sustainability theme. These Group-wide targets are monitored and the results reported annually in our Sustainability Report.

Investing in greener future

In 2022, we launched a major green transition investment programme. This investment programme will enable us to grow and ensure our competitiveness in the coming years as demand for recycled raw materials continues to grow.

For our customers, this means purer raw materials and a more sustainable value chain.
